Blogpost 1: Introduction to Anime

In this blog post, its goal is to introduce those readers to the world of anime, just like what the title implies. We'll talk about the definition of anime, what is Otaku, types of Otaku, different kind of genre for anime.

My aim for these blog post is to let you understand what anime is, and why is it so popular in today's generation.

So what is anime?

I've read some article that tells about the meaning of what anime is, the first article was  by Sendar Yegulalp entitled "What is Anime", it says that "The word anime -- pronounced "ah-knee-may" -- is an abbreviation of the word animation. In Japan, the word's used to refer to all animation." (http://anime.about.com/od/animeprimer/a/What-Is-Anime.htm)

And the next article by Elaine Barlow also entitled "What is Anime" she said that,"In many ways anime is also a state of mind; a state of understanding that many Americans have trouble getting to. The realization that animation is an acceptable meduim for dramatic story telling and not something only meant for children and political satire, is a concept that the American public may never reach which is the one of the main reasons why anime has not struck powerfully in the U.S."

Based on the article I read above anime is an abbreviation of animation which means a drawing or an image that makes it to move and talk that were made by sequences. Also, about on how the Americans have trouble getting to understand what does anime mean and indicates, they think that anime is just for kids, but I think its not just for kids because anime has mature contents that is not suitable for young viewers.

What's the differences between the American animation and Japanese animation?

"In America, animation is considered to be for children mainly, which results  in creators holding back a lot on things that are considered unsuitable for children."-Kchoze

Based on my understanding on this article, the number one difference of Americans animation to Japanese is that America's animation are way too much suitable for kids with young age, though these can still be watch by teenagers and adults if the want to, it depends to their taste. Mostly, Americans animation is called "Cartoons".

"In Japan, animation is much more diverse in terms of genres and targeted audiences, however, it is a big industry that has its own codes and rules in terms of character designs, of art style or with the inclusion of certain elements." - Kchoze

On this article, I agree that Japanese animation is much more diverse in terms of genres and targeted audiences, because Japanese animation has lot of genres which gives you a chance to choose which kind of category you want to watch not like with the Americans animation, because it doesn't have a genre or kind of anime you'd like to watch.

As an addict to anime, I have my own opinion and understanding about the difference of Japanese and American animation. American animation or cartoon are usually intended to induce laughter, and its content is more onto educational and childish. Also, I figured out that some Japanese and American animation are been copied and act it in live action. Like the superman, if I'm not mistaken superman was first issue in a comic book and been made as a cartoon and then next is acted by the popular actors in their generation. Japanese animation, just like cartoons, some of the anime are copied and act into live.

All in all, this is the summarization on what I learn about this blog. Anime  is not all about intended for us to induce laughter, anime has its own category of the story, and own background why it was made and publish. It may be based on the own experience in life of the author or he/she may based it through other people's life.
